Alan Yeong, Finance Supervisor

Alan Yeong, Finance Supervisor

Hi Alan, thanks for allowing Acuutech to ask you some questions. Please tell us a bit about yourself, what is your background?

I retired from the British High Commission in 2013 after 45 memorable years of service – 18 years being the Accountant and the rest with Management and Corporate Service Departments.

Aside from Princess Diana and Prince Harry, I have met every immediate family members of the Royal family, some of whom I had the opportunity to meet more than once. I felt honoured and overwhelmed when in 2001, I was informed that I had been awarded an M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire) by HM The Queen. That was my greatest achievement!

I was not really prepared to go into full retirement and do nothing.  I still have the drive to move on, impart my knowledge and maintain the pace that I had.

What are your hobbies and passions?

I love listening to oldies (60’s to 80’s) on the radio so much so that I have the radio on even when at sleep.  Watching live tennis, badminton and soccer matches is another one of my favourites.

Describe yourself in 5 words!

Hopefully not an overstatement…. I consider myself as being Humble, Meticulous, Diligent, Friendly but Quiet.

How and when did you join the Acuutech’s team?

An Acuutech staff who was also an ex-colleague of mine introduced me to Hitan who was then looking for a temp staff.  I started working in January 2014 on a part-time basis mainly on bookkeeping duties.  After a month, I was offered a full-time position which I gladly accepted.

What team are you in and what is your role? What tasks are you responsible for?

I am with Finance and my main duties are day-to-day running of AP and AR.  I look after HR matters too.

How does it feel like working for Acuutech?

Fantastic!  The whole office work as a team. Everyone, including Hitan is friendly, approachable, knowledge-sharing and closely-knit.  Good environment to work in.

What does your workplace look like? What do you see when you look out the window?

We have an open-concept office but not dense. That makes communication with one another very convenient. Even though Hitan’s office and the Client Services are in separate rooms, the floor-to-ceiling glass partitioning makes the office spacious and open.

I am seated on one side of the office next to a wall. Looking onto the opposite side is a row of very large glass windows which overlook
some high-rise buildings.

Please tell us a bit about your work. What are you currently working on?

I look and I deal with ‘figures’ throughout the day going through all the processes pertaining to AR and AP. Together with HR work, these keep me fully occupied on a daily basis.

We are in the midst of our FY Audit and I have been busy assisting the auditors to have a smooth audit.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Having the month-end books closed without a hitch is most satisfying.
